More than £3,000 was raised for us, as Team CPSL Mind beat off the competition to secure top spot on the ‘Minds In Action’ virtual challenge leaderboard.
This challenge, powered by Rutland Cycling, hosted on the GoJoe app and fronted by Olympic Gold Medallist, Dani Rowe MBE, encouraged participants across four local Mind charities – Northamptonshire Mind, Nottinghamshire Mind, BLMK Mind and CPSL Mind – to walk, run, cycle or swim to raise money to support local mental health services.
Between 23rd July and 6th August, for the duration of the Tokyo Olympic Games, 355 participants took part across five teams, including Rutland Cycling, and travelled an astonishing 38,131kms in total. Team CPSL Mind, captained by Dr Sarah Bailey, covered 9,085kms, not far off the distance between London and Tokyo, topping the leaderboard in a close-fought contest.
More importantly though, the challenge encouraged local people to get active, which is great for our wellbeing, and raised a considerable amount for local mental health services across each of the participating local Minds. One family in particular contributed to Team CPSL Mind, as six members of the Jarvis family (pictured) joined the team of 77.
Margaret Jarvis said, “Myself, my husband Bob, our sons Adam and Tom, our daughter Maddie and her partner Jake all took part in the challenge and asked our family and friends to support us. We’re absolutely delighted with the results and the generosity of others motivated us to do as many kilometres as we could. Between us we’ve walked, run and gone for bike rides alone or with friends. I’ve particularly enjoyed getting out into the countryside.”
Catherine Keating, our Community Fundraiser said, “We want to say a massive thank you to the Jarvis family and everyone who took part in the ‘Minds in Action’ virtual challenge. The distance achieved by Team CPSL Mind was phenomenal. Not only has participating in the challenge boosted the mental health of our fundraisers, we’ve also been able to raise a fantastic amount of money to support our mental health and wellbeing services in the local community across our region.”
